Middle Eastern Americans – an affluent, untapped market

The Middle Eastern American community is an untapped market group with strong purchase power estimated at $9 billion annually nationwide, $3.7 billion annually in Michigan and $2.4 billion in Washington DC. Source: Arab American Institute, Zogby Polls

The median income for Middle Eastern American families is $52,300 in Michigan, $59,700 in Washington DC and $54,400 Nationwide, which is 4.6% higher than other American families. Source: Foreign Policy Magazine (June 2005), US 2000 Census

Middle Eastern Americans have ownership in many businesses across North America. In Michigan alone, this number is larger than 10,000. Source: Arab American Institute, Zogby Polls

Middle Eastern Americans are brand loyal, young, educated, and affluent. Whereas 20.3 percent of Americans hold college degrees, 36.3 percent of Arab Americans are college graduates. More than half of all Arab Americans own their home. Source: Arab American Institute, Zogby Polls

Seventy Two percent of people of Arab descent in the United States work as managers or professionals, while the same is true for only 34 percent of the general U.S. population.

*Note: The term ARAB used here refers to three different ancestry groups designated in Census 2000. The first are those of Arab ancestry including among those from the following: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia or the western Asian countries of Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. The second group is the Assyrian/Chaldean/Syriac. The third groups are those from the Sub-Saharan category: the Somalian and Sudanese.
